Van De Graff Generator also known as Electrostatic Generator . The Van de Graff Generator is a mechanical electric device to produce a very high DC Voltages with a very low current
intensity, making tests with it totally harmless. The generator is provided with a conductor sphere. It produces a spark of about 5 to 7cm length with a discharger. The top has a 4mm bush for connection to other equipment through a banana plug. The conductor sphere is installed on a circular metal disc which is fitted on a cylindrical insulator pipe of plexiglass. The static electricity is produced by the rubber belt, two rollers are manufactured from Nylon & PP. The lower roller is driven by a rubber belt by a motor. The lower roller and motor are enclosed in the metal box. A metal comb is placed adjacent to each roller with sharp edges pointing towards the belt surface. Upper metal comb is electrically connected to the conducting sphere while lower metal comb is connected to earth. Lower roller is spun by electric motor so that belt moves, and the other roller spins too. To create a buildup of separated charge, the machine pulls one type of charge out of lower comb and places it on the belt’s surface. The belt transports it to the other end of machine. The electric charge is then pushed off the belt surface and on to the upper comb, where it is sucked to the outside of the metal sphere. As the charge – transport process continues, the voltage (electrical potential) between the two ends of generator grows and grows as the current is blocked. The motor is 220V operated. An On/Off switch is provided. The generator has 4mm socket, which is used for earth connection to the discharger sphere.
